Why we do it

Taaluma in Swahili means formal and non formal education, culture, vocational training...

Taaluma promotes such a holistic approach to education (combining paradigms, generations, partners, target groups and methodologies) as an answer to the interlinked social and global challenges of our time.

In this section, we wish to share true sources of inspiration for our work...

Inspiration 1 - Changing Education Paradigms

This animate was adapted from a talk given at the RSA by Sir Ken Robinson, world-renowned education and creativity expert and recipient of the RSA's Benjamin Franklin award.

Inspiration 2 - A vision of students today

A short video summarizing some of the most important characteristics of students today - how they learn, what they need to learn, their goals, hopes, dreams, what their lives will be like, and what kinds of changes they will experience in their lifetime. Created by Michael Wesch in collaboration with 200 students at Kansas State University.

Inspiration 3 - Validation

'Validation' is a fable about the magic of free parking, a fable about a parking attendant who gives his customers REAL validation -- dispensing both free parking and free compliments.

Starring TJ Thyne & Vicki Davis
Writer/Director/Composer - Kurt Kuenne
A Theatre Junkies Production

Inspiration 4 - Do schools kill creativity?

Sir Ken Robinson makes an entertaining and profoundly moving case for creating an education system that nurtures (rather than undermines) creativity.

Inspiration 5 - The Forbidden Education

The school has already served more than 200 years old and is still considered the main form of access to education. Today, the school and education are concepts widely discussed in academic, public policy, educational institutions, media and civil society spaces. Since its inception, the school has been characterized by structures and practices that are now considered largely obsolete and outdated. We say no accompanying XXI century needs. Its main shortcoming is in a design that does not consider the nature of learning, freedom of choice and the importance of love and human links in the individual and collective development. From these reflections reviews have emerged, along the years, proposals and practical education thought and think differently.

"The Forbidden Education" is a documentary film that seeks to recover many of them, explore their ideas and visualize those experiences that have dared to change the structure of the educational model of the traditional school.

Inspiration 6 - Moments

A video sharing images of moments... Inspiring ones, difficult ones, beautiful ones, emotional ones... Snapshots, situations. Moments.
